R. Dennis Smith
Dennis was the project manager for the John Marshall Law School’s Fair Lending and Home Preservation Law Project from 2011 until 2018, when he left the law school to devote more time to veterans’ issues.
Before his legal career, Dennis was the president and general manager of a Chicago-based, national commercial construction company. Prior to this position, he was a senior consultant with an international management consulting firm specializing in the construction industry. There he provided project management consulting services for industrial and commercial construction projects throughout the continental U.S. and Alaska as well as in Canada, the Philippines, and South Africa.
During a 23-year active duty career with the U.S. Air Force, Dennis served in a variety of operational, staff, and command positions in the continental U.S. and Hawaii, Germany, and Korea as well as a combat tour in Vietnam. He also served as a staff officer in the Office of the Secretary of Defense in the Pentagon. He is a graduate of the Air War College and retired in the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His military decorations include: The Bronze Star medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Meritorious Service and Commendation Medals, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with four bronze stars, and the Gallantry Cross with Palm.
